We received an overview of their business model (I do not want to mention too much in a public forum) and they were kind enough to set up their Hamster Ball and a round of Halo. They use Steradian taggers and vinyl barriers for their lasertag parties.

Meeting various field owners and sharing ideas is great. The networking one gets from these sessions is priceless.

This sessions covered a lot of areas. It was nice to see the equipment from Steradian, Battlefield Sports and Adventure Sports all in one setting - being able to play with the equipment helps to appreciate the different pluses and minuses.

Sharing of alternative revenue streams and addressing how the "Wow factor" affects your bottom line was insightful.

The night missions and new twist on standard games was entertaining. Also glad to see how the various fields played; there is more to opening a fixed field than just throwing up barriers - a proper field design definitely affect the play.

Access to the indoor site was a bonus. It was nice to cover so many different outdoor fields and see how the equipment worked with the indoor market. With the RF the indoor market is in for a shock.

Robert gave probably his best talk ever. He covered many topics and shared many things that help make his field one of the most successful ones out there.

All the speakers were excellent and I was glad to be at this conference. Probably more to say, but we'll let someone else chime in. Thanks once again to Derek for putting this together.

Stay tuned for a follow up conference call...details to follow.

I really enjoyed meeting everyone there, and appreciate all the valuable information established laser tag business owners shared during the event. Let me begin by just reminding everyone that we often interpret current circumstances through the filter of our past experience. I used my business filter of what I am "used" to from conferences - you attend, you get a notebook, and speakers tell you what's new in your field and how you will adjust. Networking is mostly something you do at lunch.
In Wildkarde's post, he said, "It isnt about us as an organization its about you as a Field owner building a network and support group." And certainly after speaking with him, I have a greater understanding of really what the LTFOA conference actually is. My apologies for the edge of my previous post. I certainly meant no disrespect or to question anyone's character or integrity. On the contrary, I truly only want what's best for the industry and, not to put too fine a point on it, but what's best for my business. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
That being said, I'm considering attending the gathering myself for some facetime with other field owners. Should that be the case, please don't sock me in the gut when you meet me (grin). We'll see you in Dallas.

Edited by masterchief - 03-Mar-2010 at 09:10

    Author: zeezop
Subject: LTFOA Business Academy March 2010
Posted: 03-Mar-2010 at 06:52

Hi Masterchief,
I have been to all the conferences and each one has proven beneficial. Adventure Sports puts a great deal of energy into these and most of the work done by Wildkarde and others is volunteer work, at the prices charged no one is trying to make money (I would be surprised if AS is able to even break even).
The conferences are a lot less formal than the typical business conferences; but instead you get actual one on one interaction with owners from all over the globe. Many ideas are shared amongst the field owners, instead of relying on one's person's experience we have everyones.
Do not come to this conference expecting a power point presentation and some guy standing in front of us telling us what he does. Instead expect to have a topic of discussion and an open forum. There will be industry "experts" but as many people will tell you, the real experts are usually not the one in front of you talking.
If you have a business that is stagnant here is a great opportunity to talk to those who have been there, done that. If your business is going through the roof, come down and share.
I am certain this conference was not planned at the "last minute", it takes time to get speakers and guests to commit. Once the commitments were made, then the announcement can be made.
As mentioned this conference is available due to the volunteer work of Wildkarde and others. The technology is available, but is the volunteer available to implement it? Would you prefer paying more than $99 to bring in a professional to set up the Skype, audio, video etc? This can be discussed at the conference and maybe there is someone with the skillset to meet these goals, or it may be decided this would be something to be outsourced.
This conference is not an AS conference, it is a field owners conference, AS is just generous enough to support it. Adventure Sports, Battlefield, Steradian, people who make their own taggers are all welcome to attend, share, learn and have fun.
So yes, this is not a professional conference, nor was it ever intended to be. It is a group of people with a common interest getting together, sharing ideas from the real world helping each other grow their business to the place they would like it to be. And for making this opportunity available I would like to thank Adventure Sports.

Edited by zeezop - 03-Mar-2010 at 07:01
